Community Services

Even though, SMCS is primarily an east Indian Cultural Society, we do participate in a number of Community Services in and around Fort McMurray. Our Community has been, part and parcel of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo for the last four decades !

Some of the events and programs of this Community, that we regularly participate are listed below:

• Spring and Fall Community Clean-up
• Relay for Life for Cancer Society
• Heritage Day Festivities of Fort Mcmurray Historical Society
• Canada Day Parade and Cultural celebrations organized by the Municipality
• ‘The Craze’ celebrations on 31st December at Mc Donald Island
• Volunteering at Soup Kitchen
• Volunteering at the ‘Festival of Trees’
• Many of our members perform a wide variety of volunteering services at Hub(Family Assistance Centre), Public Library, Northern Light Hospital, YMCA etc. in Fort Mcmurray

Year Round Community Service Event

Recycling collection

This service activity has been in progress for the last one year. As part of the service activity, Society collects empty bottles, juices pouch, milk jug and recycle them at the depot.
